SO WHAT IS ROUND CABLE?

WHAT IS STRANDED CABLE?

This is the cable used for Horizontal cable runs. That's the one that is permanent and in the walls and ceiling from the TC (Telecommunications Closet) to the Wall Jack Outlet or surface mount box for the work station. Usually Category 5 or 5e- 4 Pair UTP cable. (4 Pair UTP means Unshielded Twisted Pair. )

It is usually used for patch cords. It is made up of single strands that are very flexible as opposed to the sold cable. This type of cable does not crack at the plug as easily as a solid cable would if you wiggled it accidentally or intentionally. Small cracks in a solid cable plug at the connection from movement can drive you crazy with intermittent problems when the plug moves.

LEARN THE LINGO.
The Red jack picture below is of a JACK. Or as some incorrectly call an RJ45 jack. The term plug refers to the picture above which is a male plug. Mixing the two terms can get you the wrong item.
