Outdoor Cable Cat5e Cat6 direct burial. Cable for outside
Cat5e or Cat3 or C6 direct burial, unlike indoor cable this includes a protection for use
in the ground. The cable has a black jacket and contains the 4 pair 350MHz cable for outside installations.
It can come Jel or Non-Jel. Outside cable should be UV rated this allows protection from the Sun.
As to which one to use?
Keep in mind that your goal here is to keep
water and moister out of the cable. That is a network destroyer. So, the outer jacket is very important
and Jel is even better. Why?
Because it is like putting a layer of protection over the
inside of the cable. It is not on the outside but on the inside. It can get a little messy when you try
to connect it but it's worth the added trouble. Like a Petroleum Jelly coating, water has a hard time
getting through. The other type if it is for burial is tape wrapped. This is a newer style that
doesn't use Jelly coating. It also works well.
Jel filled cable is heavier overall and is more
expessive then the other. But, in my opinion it is worth the added cost and efforts.
one would you rather use? I would probably think it is a toss up but maybe the Jel wins.
Below you will
find several choices including SHIELDED cable. That means it has an extra layer to protect from
stray signals and stuff like that.So the breakdowns are:
- Gel or Jel higher cost.
- Weighs more.
- A little messy to use.
- More protecton from moisture.
- Tape wrapped is
- Still get good protection.
- Easier handling.
So, those are my opinions, just call me Nick the Cabler.
